Mr. Kajiman
Tamang is an inhabitant of Siddapokhari VDC, ward
no. 6, Koksa of Sankhuwasabha district. As he
was from a very poor family, he could not continue
his study immediately after completing his School
Leaving Certificate (SLC) level from local high
school in 1996. The Chainpur Barabise District
Road (CBDR) of Rural Access Programme provided
him an opportunity to join the Road Building Group
and make means of wage earning from road construction
works. Mr Tamang, who was very keen to pursue
further study income from wage earning, became
a very reliable source to finance his education
expenses. He then joined the college working as
the member of the RBg at the same time. He admitted
in Dhankuta Multiple College and carried out his
self-study and appeared in exam as the regular
student. He passed Intermediate Level in second
division and again he admitted Bachelor Degree
in Education (B.ed). In Bachelor level also he
carried self-study and road construction work
simultaneously and ultimately he passed Bachelor
degree. He worked in this road for about 4 years
and earned roughly NRs. 60,000. He utilized the
earning in educating himself and he has changed
his life dramatically.
Mr Tamang has been exemplary who could transform his life from being a RBG member to the Schoolteacher. He has been teaching in Bal Jyoti Primary School in his own village since 2006. If CBDR has not been started in this locality, he might have gone gulf countries for unskilled labour works and he would never obtain Bachelor Degree and teaching job as well. Now he is quite happy and planning to enrol in Master degree (M.A) and ultimately to be a campus lecturer. Now he has understood the importance of education and he is quite sincere for the education of his children. He shared his success story, while DFID Nepal Head, MLD Secretary and other officials from DoLIDAR, Local Development Officer and RAP CTA team managed field visit to CBDR on 23 November 2009. He thanked to all donor agencies giving such opportunity to work as RBG member and change his life. Now he would like to suggest to other RBG members to utilize their wages in productive sector and make happier life.
