Social and Economic Development (SED)
Social and Economic Development (SED) Programme focuses on institutional development of target groups and beneficiaries for a sustainable enhancement of their livelihoods. RAP2 follows an inclusive development approach. As a result, the programme puts special emphasis on the socio-economic empowerment of women, poor, marginalised, and excluded groups. To achieve this objective, SED component consists of the following three core areas.

Organizational Development
RAP2 supports target beneficiaries to form and strengthen Road Building Groups (RBGs), Local Road Users’ Committees (LRUC), and Local Road Coordination Committees (LRCC). Enhancing the organisational capacities of these groups and committees to undertake various development activities in a sustainable manner is key to the success of RAP2.

Income Generation
RAP2 helps target beneficiaries improve their economic status through the transfer of appropriate technical skills/knowledge required for undertaking various farm and off-farm income generating activities. Apart from the provision of technical know-how, RAP2 also encourages and facilitates target beneficiaries in the management and operation of saving and credit schemes, which play an important role in promoting income generating activities.

Coordination and Linkage
RAP2 promotes a more coordinated development effort along the road corridor by linking target beneficiaries and their organisations to other community-based initiatives, organisations or projects for sustainable development.
