RAP
works in seven hill districts, three districts in the west of Nepal,
being Doti, Achham and Dailekh in western
Nepal, and four districts in the east, being Khotang, Bhojpur,
Sankhuwasabha, and Terhathum in eastern
Nepal. The primary purpose of the programme is to improve connectivity
of rural hill communities, enhance economic and employment opportunities
and increase access to market and social services for the rural poor
and disadvantaged.
RAP follows a phased approach to road construction,
using labour-intensive methods, where blasting and heavy machines
and equipment are not used at all. Where topography allows, in areas
of moderate cross slope, the phases of construction are combined.
The roads are designed and built to fair weather district road standards
with earthen surfaces, following completion of engineering surveys.
